Abortion

At the risk of infuriating everyone in Blogville, I am going to write about my feelings on probably the most emotional issue of the day.

Free access to abortion has been the law of the land since the Supreme Court ruled in Roe VS Wade back on January 22nd 1973. This landmark ruling overturned a Texas state law, as well as several other state laws criminalizing abortion.

First, let me state for the record that I do not personally believe in abortion. I do not know when life actually starts (whether at conception as most religious people believe, the first, second, third trimester ... or when the baby takes its' first breath). Not knowing if I am disposing of fetal tissue or killing a baby leads me to err on the side of caution in my personal life.

Now, just as I choose life ... I am not against a woman making her own choice. If a woman was pregnant with my , I would hope that she would tell me before having an abortion ... but once again that is her choice ... but please don't tell me after it is already done ... I prefer not to know if this is the case.

I believe too many young women use abortion as a form of birth control. This is so very sad. My first wife never got over the fact that she aborted her when she was 17, and it haunts her to this day. She believes God has punished her by not letting her conceive another (she now has 6 daughters). I think that abortion for these is the easiest answer they see at that moment ... the problem just goes away.

This brings me to my first very controversial statement Parents must be notified prior to a girl younger than 18 having an abortion. The reason abortion looks so good to these girls is that their parents don't have to know. Once we take that away, maybe a discussion of the options can follow and who knows what may come of that. This may lead to the girl having the and the parents raising it (I know many couples who would like to have another , but the woman is past her bearing age), or the being put up for adoption and giving a very precious gift to a couple that weren't blessed with their own. Or the girl can have the abortion anyway ... I am for parental notification, not permission. Of course a legal recourse must be offered to in abusive homes and should also err on the side of caution. Parents can avoid most of this hassle by being approachable to their .

Are you ready for number 2 ... ready or not here it comes Partial Birth Abortion must be made illegal except in the case of the life of the mother. This is an ugly procedure, just as the name implies. The worst procedure I have witnessed is when the cervix is dilated and a needle is stuck into the babies skull and acid is injected into the brain. I made the mistake of watching a clip of this procedure ... the strong of stomach can see it by googling it. This is done any time in the third trimester and is basically infanticide. If you can't make up your mind if you want to keep the baby in 6 months, this option should not be open to you. Now while most Americans are against this procedure, the pro-choice crowd (taking a cue from the anti gun-control folks ... more on them tomorrow) are against anything that limits abortion in any form. They feel that if you give the pro-life people an inch they will take a yard ... and they may be right, but we are talking about a potential human life, with all the sorrow and happiness that entails.

Abortion must be our last option ... Our first option must be strong, loving family units. That will take care of most of our problems before they even become problems.

Thank you for reading my opinions ... you can now blast away.

America's President?

Rudy Guliani has formed an exploratory committee to examine a run for the White House. Can America's Mayor become America's President?

We are already hearing reports on Rudy's personal life. He has been married and divorced 3 times, the last divorce being a bit ugly ... to me that's actually not too bad, only one ugly divorce out of 3 ... I've had 2 divorces and both got a bit ugly.

Rudy is going to have a hard time winning the Republican nomination. He is pro-gay rights and though I wouldn't say he was pro-abortion, he is for the right of a woman to choose. This won't play well with the evangelicals which are part of the Republican base, but may sit well with the general population if he does get the nomination.

His track record as Mayor of NYC has its ups and downs. His opponents will stress the downs. But I'd like to point out that as Mayor, he lowered taxes, put more police on the streets, cleaned up the subways and mid-town Manhattan ... and we all know how well he handled himself after 9-11.

The best thing I can say about his time as NYC Mayor is that NYC was a better place to live in because of his efforts. It would be nice to say that America is a better place to live in after a Guliani presidency.

Well the new Playstation 3 is now available for sale ... Ooops, it's sold out. All across the nation, people have stood in line for days to get the opportunity to plunk down $500.00 to $600.00 for a game system.

In Mount Laurel NJ, 9 month pregnant Julie Mosley, fought contractions to keep her place in line (17th). Some people have been in line for 4 days.

And you know ... this isn't the stupidity that this post is about.

In Connecticut, people in line were robbed at gun-point and one was shot in the chest. Hmmm ... a line of people, all of whom are planning to spend at least $500.00 (how many were carrying cash?) ... Where were the police? ... Why didn't the store hire security?

In New York, a riot broke out when there weren't enough PS3's to go around. The store advertised it would have a certain number of Play Stations ... the people in line couldn't count and see that there were more people than merchandise? The store management couldn't have warned the people in line that their chances of getting one were not good (wait, what am I saying ... why would the store do that, they want people to come in the store ... maybe they will buy something else ... or maybe they will start a riot).

People ... it's only a game, you have the option of waiting a few months till supply is better and the prices come down. It's not like it's food and your are starving. You don't have to spoil your by getting them the newest thing on the market as soon as it comes out (if it's even for the ).

On another stupid note, 4 men robbed a Pizza Hut. They were arrested shortly afterward, it seems that the Ford Crown Victoria that they had rented as a get-away vehicle had a GPS system in it. The actual stupidity in this one is two-fold ... 1) 4 guys to rob a Pizza Hut? 2) Renting a get-away car? How much money could they possibly get away with that they can pay for the car, and have a good pay-day after they split it 4-ways?

Not in my wildest dreams did I ever think that I would be devoting blog space to Brittany Spears and Kevin Federline, but I just had to do it.

It seems the young couple are having a contest to see who is the most classless.

First Brittany decides to break off the marriage to K-Fed. Instead of in person, she decides to let her husband know by text message. Now I know this has got to hurt hubby. I mean, a person that was supposedly important enough to love till death do us part ... now gets a text message?

Well not to be undone, K-Fed is selling a 4-hour sex tape taken in the early days of their marriage for 50 million dollars. I thought his career was going so well ... he is after all #117 on the charts. So, what he is saying is that money is more important to him than the memories of his time with his wife.

It's too bad that they are breaking up ... seems they were meant for each-other.

The only other thing I have to say is ... A four hour sex tape ...

I'm Impressed

For labor unions to go the way of the Pony Express and the 25 cent subway token?

My first job after I reached age 18 was a job as a security guard. I was making the minimum wage at that time of $2.35 per hour. For the privilege of working for minimum wage, I was required to join Local 317 of the Sentry, Guard and Watches Union. Union dues were $15.00 per month and were deducted automatically from my pittance of a paycheck.

I wondered, why was I paying for the privilege of working for minimum wage ... and me being who I am, sought out the shop steward and asked. His answer was that the union was my voice in Washington and was working hard to get the minimum wage increased so that I would be taken care of. This sounded reasonable, so I left satisfied that my question had been answered.

The next week as I was perusing what was laughingly called my paycheck, I noticed that my dues had gone from $15.00 to $20.00 a month. Well I went right back to the steward and asked about this. He said that the union was real close to getting us a hike in the minimum wage and that the increase in dues was to insure that this happened. When asked how soon this would happen, he assured me that it would be within the next couple of years or so.

I quit the job the next day and have not been in a union since.

Back in the early 1900's, with the sweat-shops and unsafe working conditions and the labor, the unions were instrumental in making the United States a better place for the working person.

Now with federal OSHA laws to protect the workers, anti- labor laws and worker's compensation ... the problems that made the unions indispensable have already been cured for the most part. The unions continue to take money from the take-home pay of their members, and in most cases you don't have a choice of if you want to be a member or not. The unions are big political contributors, and if you don't agree as to who your union dues are being contributed to ... tuff.

Have we had enough of unions? Let me get your input here.

On this day as well as everyday of our lives, we need to be thankful to our veterans that sacrificed so that we and our families can be safe.

Only in a few countries in the world can a person go to sleep at night and not have to worry that a coup will change the government and affect their life ... we live in one of these countries.

In only a few countries can a person say whatever he wants, write without fear of political repercussions, and blog away ... we live in one of these countries.

In only a few countries can a person worship at any church they want, or choose not to worship without persecution ... we live in one of these countries.

In only a few countries can groups demonstrate against the government without fear of violence against them ... we live in one of these countries.

So to the military that allows us these freedoms and security, we say THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE TO OUR COUNTRY and for the sacrifices that you've made and continue to make for us.

This non controversial and non political post brought to you by a grateful nation

Rummy is Trumped

Well, by now everyone has heard that Donald Rumsfeld has resigned his position as Sec of Defense. We all know that this is political speak for, "he got canned".

Now what has Rummy accomplished in his 6-yrs? He won the war in Afganistan and won the initial war in Iraq. Phase II of the Iraqi operation has so far been horrendous. Hindsight being 20/20, there are many things he didn't consider about winning the peace in Iraq. Some may say that there was no way Rummy could have foreseen the things that went wrong ... maybe not, but that was the reason that he was the Sec of Def.

When Rumsfeld was appointed his position, we were not at war. He was appointed to bring the military from the old Cold War posture of large units designed to engage the enemy across huge battle lines to ... smaller more mobile units, that could be quickly deployed to smaller, regional conflicts. This one he won. Brigade combat teams have been forming at various posts around the country and they are better armed and trained to engage in these localized wars. There is even a FCS (Future Combat Systems) brigade forming in Texas to test high-tech battle gear for small units. When these brigades are finished forming, the country will be better served by the military.

Rummys' biggest accomplishment was his downfall. Do you have any idea how many Generals were pissed off by having their Divisions and Corps whittled down to make up these new semi-autonomous brigades. These were the same Generals that told the Army Times that the Secretary had to go.

Mr. Rumsfeld, good luck to you in the Civilian sector ... and thank you.

The Democrats.

Congratulations to Howard Dean, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid and the rest of the Dem's. Though I thought you ran a campaign without substance ... it worked!

Representative Pelosi, you now have an opportunity for something few achieve ... greatness. As the new Majority Leader, you need to exhibit statesmanship and become a true leader. Good luck to you in your attempts to rein in the most radical of your party (some of whom you may agree with), so that at least some legislation can get done in the next 2 years.

Republicans, I know this is going to be hard to do, but you need to work with the Democrats to get important legislation passed ... and not just attack everything they do. This will be hard since payback is sweet.

Now the winner you've been waiting for ... the winner of my first ever Blog Contest is ...

Today millions of Americans will be going to the polls to exercise their civil right and civil duty to vote. Unfortunately millions more will find something better to do. Allow me to try to subliminally sway you to do the right thing ...

VOTE!

What was so subliminal about that you may ask? I would tell you ... but then it wouldn't be subliminal now would it?

Besides it's more fun to guess. The first person with the right answer gets a fabulous prize

The winner and the prize will be announced tomorrow ... stay tuned and vote early so you don't miss Dancing with the Stars.

What's So Hard About Showing Your ID?

We need to show ID when boarding an airplane, writing a check, using a credit card or buying cigarettes or liquer. The one place we will not have to show ID tommorrow is when voting. State Legislatures keep passing laws requiring voters to show an ID ... and the ACLU keeps challenging these laws. The primary reason for these challenges seems to be that they amount to an un-fair poll tax on the poor.

Are they trying to tell us that poor people don't have drivers licenses or State-issued ID cards? Every piece of legislation that I have looked at has a provision allowing people who plead poverty to get either a free ID or a discounted (usually $5.00) ID.

Every year we hear about voter fraud, from more voters voting in a precinct than there are registered voters to people that have been dead for 20 years suddenly appearing at the polling place. These laws are simply to ensure that only those that are registered ... vote. It is not to try to deny any citizen their right to vote.

In order to make sure nobody is denied their right, provisional ballots are provided to anyone that asks for one. Oh, there is also an army of lawyers available in case anyone even thinks his rights may have been infringed upon.

There is something wrong when the rights of the dead to vote are more important than the rights of our servicemembers to vote.

Before I vote, I like to do my homework. Voting is a civic duty and I don't want to be un-prepared. What I do is write down the 4 most important things to me and put them in order of importance. For me it's:

1) Taxes
2) Security
3) Education
4) Public Safety

I then see where each candidate stands on my issues. I assign a 4 pts to the winner on my first issue, 3 pts for the second then 2 and 1. The candidate with the most points gets my vote. In the event of a tie, the candidate that scores highest on my first priority wins.

What are the most important issues to you? (remember these are issues that affect you directly)

How do you figure out how you are going to vote?

Yet Another Attack On Our Military
Posted:Nov 3, 2006 2:46 pm

New Jersey Representative Rush Holt is protesting military absentee voting by fax and e-mail. In a move reminiscent of the 2000 Presidential election in Florida, Rep. Holt wants the military ballots not to be counted. In Florida, Democrats successfully got thousands of military ballots tossed out, while Democratic operatives fervently scrutinized ballots in Democratic strongholds to look for hanging or dimpled chads.

Congressman Holt figures (and rightly so) that most of the military ballots will be for Republicans and wants to make things as hard as possible for members of our military that are deployed (protecting him and his family) to vote.

Why don't the Democrats just put a poll tax on Military voters and be done with it ... or better yet why don't they require a test like they used to use in the South to be eligible to vote. According to Kerry and friends the soldiers would be too stupid to pass and won't be able to vote.

Mel Gibson Did It Better

Well ... John Kerry appologized ... kinda ... sorta, anyway he used the word regretted.

Now wait a minute, what he regretted was that "his words were misinterpreted to imply anything negative about those in uniform."

Does this mean that we were too stupid to correctly interpret his wording? I think he owes us another apology. Fat Chance that will happen ... and they talk about the President never admitting that he was wrong.

To me this is Strike 3 for Kerry and his political career should be over. He needs to retire to his estate in Mass., spend all that Heinz condiment money ... and never be heard from again. For those of you who haven't been keeping score:

Strike One: When Kerry came home from Vietnam, he became a war-protestor (nothing wrong with that ... but he crossed the line), accusing everyone in his unit of war-crimes (except for him of course). Newsflash: If you witness a warcrime as a member of the military it is your duty to report it immediately ... not a year later, so we will call strike one Deriliction Of Duty

Strike Two: About a year ago, Kerry accused the US troops of terrorizing the Iraqi people. This of course made headlines in all the Arabic papers and news shows. Kerry was the darling of Al Jazeera that week. So, let's call Strike Two Giving Comfort To The Enemy.

Stike Three: Well we all already know strike three. What should we call this one? This one, believe it or not is the least aggregious of his offenses. This one just shows his utter disdain for the common folk (military included). I think we will just call this one Stupidity.

For his crimes I, Chief Executioner of Blogville (yes I just appointed myself that), sentance John F Kerry to the death of his political career.

Going back to the title of this post, When Mel Gibson appologized for his stupid, anti-semitic remarks, I believed he was actually sorry. Then again, he is an actor. I'm not Jewish, but if I were, I think that I would have forgiven him and continued to see his movies. But I would never vote for him ... I only vote for people I feel are better than me.

The picture is the front page of the New York Post and is some soldiers in Iraq holding up a banner saying "Halp us Jon Carry we r stuck hear n Iraq".
