Why do people have so much trouble understanding what safe sex means? I have met up with guys after chatting with them and explaining that I only play safely and they always try to have unprotected sex with me. Are condoms that big of a turnoff?

Why do people go on sites like this one to meet people and after chatting with someone they say they want to meet but chicken out and not go through with the meeting? Any ideas?
