Tradition
Tradition I don't say much during the year...but when the weather turns cold I post the lyrics to one of the most beautiful songs ever written. So here it is again The Urge for Going I woke up today and found, frost perched on the town, It hovered in a frozen sky, and gobbled summer down, When the sun turns traitor cold, and shivering trees are standing in a naked row, I get the urge for going, but I never seem to go and I get the urge for going, when the meadow is turning brown, summertime is falling down, winters closing in And I had a girl in summertime, With summer colored skin, Not another man in town, My darlin's heart could win, But when the leaves fell tremblin' down, The wooly winds did rub their faces in the snow, She got the urge for goin', And I had to let her go and she got the urge for goin' when the meadow grass was turnin' brown summertime was fallin' down and winter's closing in the warriors of winter give a cold triumphant shout all that stays is dyin' and all that lives is gettin' out see the geese in chevron flight laughin' and racin' on before the snow they've got the urge for goin', and they've got the wings to go and they get the urge for goin' when the meadow grass is turnin' brown summertime is fallin' down and winter's closing in I'll ply the fire with kindlin' and pull the blankets to my chin I'll lock that vagrant winter out and bolt my wanderings in I'd like to call back summertime and have her stay for just another mont or so she's got the urge for goin' and I guess she'll have to go and she gets the urge for goin' when the meadow grass is turnin' brown all her empire's fallin' down winter's closing in ---------------------------- as sung by Tom Rush |
