Are people just used to being messed over? In America I'd say yeah. Most of us wouldn't trust the next person as far as we could throw them. It's just the way of the world right now, sad as that is. And that's just my opinion. I BET there are lots of folks who see only good in people and trust them until they are given good reason not to trust.

I think that honest is always the best option - but I also think that many people feel like they can't be honest with their feelings or opinions - because they aren't confident enough in themselves and rely on being "appreciated" and "admired" far more then they rely on their own character.

It's a "common thread" to have a general outrage that follows a tale of being "abused". It validates the "moral outrage" that is expected in society - without requiring that you actually hold those feelings or thoughts.

It's sad that we are getting inured to the misuses of trust - but since often we are complaining about the little things - and fussing over the minor issues - we tend to be all depleted of cranky when the real need for outrage arrives. Or - the issue is of such long standing and complex that there is a hopeless feeling you get when you try to tackle it - just finding one area to attack is often overwhelming.
