Doi! OK I see you mentioning the image centering thing. Are saying that image centering can now be done again in a standard blog post? I would take that ability over the use of cell padding but having both back would be awesome. I do no use tables as such, so am not sure about cell padding - but can look into it. It may also be the subject to the table rules on blog or post pages. I will update you if I have any more workarounds... but it would be nice if the site told us what they are doing so we can know whether it is worth trying to find a workaround, or are they going to "fix" it, or are they going to continue to remove the members formatting.

Sorry if you covered these two issues and I missed it but what are suddenly missing for me are... 1. The ability to center an image 2. The ability to use cell padding It's thrown off years of careful formatting! insert exploding bomb image here

Oh brother!!! If we continue to accept work arounds then eventually about two people will be able to blog- ascetically. I hate workarounds eventually it means that a select few are using the site to blog. Tell me I'm mad but a simple centered image should not require learning a new language Gerk? Anyhow blogville is bottom of the rung until we cause hell IMO until persuaded otherwise I am pissed off !!!!! But interestingly enough the HTML center command was never meant to be - read about it after this and it should have been implemented another way... but slipped for convenience... and I suspect it will be 10 years before it loses support (with HTML 5), so the site is future proofing possibly (if it lasts that long with the way it treats it's users).

I am no computer geeks and know programming stuffs. Thank you for sharing this. But the site already got the message about the border hmtl code not working if any use then on the site where this html code are allow. That what I noticed when the profile new style appeared as I use HTML table code on my introduction the code was not working and I had let known on live group latest question post, also then I noticed not working on my blog and also no my signature that goes with the width too. The border/frame I use which boxed up my posting, I see it looking nice then without. I just be patient and wait for them to fix this if they do. But all we can do is wait and hope and maybe have to accept that this is part of their "new clean look" that they are trying to achieve.

Thanks for showing me the reason why I couldn't find a way to outwit them on my borders.....I now intend to spend the weekend blinging my border and let's see if they find a way to get past that!  I intent to look at style sheets briefly it may be 10 years or more before HTML 4 is not supported by browsers... interesting thing is that the biggest issue with HTML 5 is the removal of support for the center command... !!!

Homebird, you are quite welcome to rant and write a lot, this is a matter that needs to be discussed and I think a few people may have linked to this post. For me it is both my job (to troublesoot IT issues) and a hobby, like making jigsaw puzzles or a good detective novel.... but sometimes my explanations can be long or hard to follow... they have a policy in work, well not a policy but a joke, to get me to explain to staff when things go wrong as I will "blind" them and they will end up being unable to follow....lol... simple because the explanation is long and complex. But on the issue of the site, I think that they may be heading for blogs to look like feeds on f-b... thay are on a winner in a way cause no where else providing the blogging forum... but someone might just decide to tackle this issue if the site continue with their policy... but setting up a dating site is a more complex issue....just providing the blogging is easy. It is interesting that the borders around the calender, recent visitors, recent comments, etc. on the Blog page have also suffered from this change to the style sheet... wonder if that was intentional!!! I think I might agree that changing the stylesheet may have been policy with known implications - I cannot believe that someone did not notice the borders disappear on these elements even if they did not check the actual blog contents. I know some people do not use borders or other formatting and that could be the issue that this only affects a few and the facility to blog is free... Now we will just have to wait and see, I know that there are movements taking place to push this issue forward - but if there is resistance to reversing some changes maybe that is why the founder, who appeared for a short while to "fix" the problems, disappeared. I was aware of the changes to the profile pages removing the bling background.... I did a lot of reading on style sheets and have a few things to try to see how easy it would be to reverse the changes - which simply means turning off the cascade inheritance for blog pages. It is interesting to note that the changes do not affect viewing my blog when not logged in - cause I set by blog and some posts to view by non-members as a test. However there is a requirement to make changes in the way that web pages are presented cause of bad and inconsistent practice by browser developers...the principal is that format and layout be in a stylesheet and only data and a reference to the style in the html page and the site are doing this and as the center command is not supported in HTML 5 it must be embedded in a stylesheet, and even that appears to cause issues from researching on the net. Anyway my reply is almost as long as your comment - but sure is talking not what blogging is about... hope we can get something sorted or the site will loose more members.

Aaaaah is that being unfair on the developers....??? It's like a puzzle for me to solve and I must confess I enjoy the challenge (IT troubleshooting is my job) - but more importantly it's understanding what is going on and why... and how to fix it or at least a pointer in the right direction - if it helps. Sometimes people do not like the "help" and I can understand that - am not trying to do their job for them but to make solutions easier to find...

Unfortunately this can not be fixed by us bloggers, it requires a code change within the style sheets - but as has been pointed out to me - there may be issues with preparing for HTML 5 and allowing users format their blogs with some commands (such as "center" which is not HTML 5 compliant) so have to find another way to do it or remove that option from us.... wonder what will happen - but the post does explain exactly what is wrong - so it's a step forward - if only we could get it to their IT department.

I remember the site talking about moving over to HTML 5 eventually. Not sure if they're still working on that, tho, but I do see them trying to tweak things and clean them up. Unfortunately, when they tweak something, they tend to break something else  This is a major problem for the site and it's effect on user posts as every user has the option to change formatting (e.g. center command which is not supported in HTML 5) so they will have to write a style tag for every option that a user can insert into post or else just accept plain text posts or only allow users select HTML 5 compatible formatting options.... I am sure it can be done easily but it takes so much extra work and I suspect that many of the recent format problems may relate switching from embedded codes to style sheet tags - explains a lot, and thanks a million for starting me on that train of thought.

I remember the site talking about moving over to HTML 5 eventually. Not sure if they're still working on that, tho, but I do see them trying to tweak things and clean them up. Unfortunately, when they tweak something, they tend to break something else

I note a few other formatting error like the width and height display differently depending on whether viewing a post on the blog page or post page... my guess is that the style sheet is overwriting the html format tags again....
